Self-Publish your book and leave your legacy

Self-Publish your book and leave your legacy

Book and glassesWith the options for self-publishing increasing, so too is the number of people writing their memoir or biography.

Some authors simply publish a few copies for family and friends. To me this is the greatest gift one could leave.

Not everybody wants to be a best selling author, or build a business and share with a wider audience. For some their story is very personal and for others although personal, they want to share with others to make a difference.

But every story or message can be shared in whatever way the author chooses.

Each person’s publishing goals are different. An author could talk their book and produce an audiobook, or talk it and have it transcribed, edited and published into a print book.

Leaving a Legacy

Some authors leave a legacy almost by default.  For example, a person in business may write and publish a book for money or marketing reasons, and by doing so they inadvertently leave a legacy in the form of a book.

Some people leave a legacy by setting up a foundation or donating or displaying a collection of sorts. A book is another vehicle for leaving a legacy and one I would love most people to consider. Every person has experienced something in life they could share.

Imagine a world where no one wrote their book to share their story, message or expertise? A huge part of our history would be lost.

I often wish I had a book written by relatives I never got to meet…so I could meet them on the pages of a book and see the world through their eyes.

For some the journey of writing is healing in itself, having time to reflect on a part of their life.

Publishing that story takes courage.

I seen a interview with Jerry Green and Beverly Crockett that pinched my interest I liked what she said her publishing company did for people who wanted to write .I have started a book on memiors of a mother and daughter journeys who were once separated and then reunited .Its been rough writing and learning how to dialogue.I would like to meet someone to help pull out of me what God has put in me to bring to the surface a story that needs to be told. I do believe their story will inspire and heal .

Everyone has a book inside of them and a story to share.
Doing a program or finding a writing coach can be a great way to be able to share your story with the world.

I too agree that it is a wonderful gift – as a professional editor, many of my clients are writers writing and publishing their memoirs for family and friends, and hopefully other readers, to enjoy. I love working with them on making their ‘legacy’ come to life!
